Tunitas Creek Beach Earth Day Cleanup 2023

At Don Horsley Park at Tunitas Creek Beach
Saturday, November 30, 2024 - 9:00am–12:00pm

Here's your opportunity to enjoy spectacular ocean views while volunteering the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Tunitas Creek Beach is a beautiful spread of coastline that will open as San Mateo County's newest park in early 2025.  If you'd like to get out of the house to help with a beach cleanup event, join us the morning of November 30 at 9 a.m.

We will begin with a steep, 1/2-mile walk down a paved road to our restoration site. We will then walk along a sandy beach picking up and bagging trash that may harm  Snowy Plovers.

Gloves, buckets, and trash pick-up tools will be provided. We ask that you wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty. The work area is exposed and can be quite windy, so be sure to bring plenty of warm clothes. Sunscreen, snacks, and hats are also great to have on hand.

Heavy weather, including wind and rain, will cancel this event and we will  contact participants by email.

No restrooms or potable water will be available.

Please bring at least one personal water bottle for each member of your group.

Please note, Tunitas Creek Beach and its parking lot are currently closed to the general public behind a locked gate.

Contact Stuart Smith at sgsmith@smcgov.org with questions about the event.

A reminder email with more detailed instructions on the day's activities and where to meet will also be sent in advance of the event. We look forward to seeing you in the parks!

Volunteers under the age of 18 must be registered by a parent or guardian. Youth under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. Our programs are recommended for ages 10 and up.
